New methods journal launches

Nature Methods

A new laboratory techniques journal for life scientists and chemists launches on 1 October 2004. Nature Methods, the latest addition to the Nature family, will publish major methodological developments and provide scientists with new tools that can be applied to their research.

With the goal of creating a highly visible forum for the presentation of novel methods, the journal believes that major developments in the field often take place across disciplines. As such this information can miss out on the wide exposure and interdisciplinary exchange it deserves.

“We believe that there is a need in the scientific community for a journal that publishes innovative research methods for their own sake, and we want Nature Methods to meet this need,” said Veronique Kiermer, Editor. “The journal addresses a broad, interdisciplinary audience of biologists and chemists, because methodological developments often originate from exchanges between disciplines of science.”

In addition to primary research papers, selected on the basis of their interest and immediate practical relevance for laboratory researchers, the journal also includes research highlights, News and Views articles, reviews and topical information on technological resources. In addition alongside Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, Nature Methods will present a unique monthly step-by-step format, for the publication of cutting edge protocols of broad interest to researchers.

A limited number of free subscriptions are available; researchers interested in applying can visit http://www.nature.com/cc-registration/showLogin.do for further information.
