This might be interesting to some of you.
When scientist have studied the bugs found in peat deposits of the quaternary age <2Ma they have found the exact same species that are found on earth today. The interesting thing here is that the climate has changed a lot during this, rather short, time span. During this time some 20 ice ages or glaciations has occurred on, at least, the northern hemisphere. One would think that such climatic changes would make the bugs to evolve and adapt but this has not happend. Today species of bugs ones found in England can be found way up north in Siberia, this is several thousands of km. Many of these bugs are slow walkers and bad at aerial transport. This behaviour is researched more and more since these bugs are surprisingly good temperature proxies, they mate only at certain temps and are used to rebuild the past climate.
