Brainstormers...ISCID wants to compile a list of the top 10 threads of 2002. In doing so, they would like Brainstorms participants to nominate one candidate thread. You can do this by simply replying to this thread and including the title of the nominated thread along with a link.
One nomination per person.
ISCID will take the list of nominees and narrow it down to ten. We hope to unveil this in early January. [ 16. December 2002, 14:44: Message edited by: Moderator ]

This is definitely the thread for me: Organisms using GAs vs. Organisms being built by GAs The arguments made by the participants are trenchant and supported by references. Very educative thread. Focused, mature, thoroughly intellectual and noise-free. Actually, its the link that brought me to ISCID - although there are other reasons that made it appealing. [ 17. So far the best thread according to me is Dembski's "Organisms using GAs vs. Organisms being built by GAs"
Organisms using GAs vs. Organisms being built by GAs
This thread, single handed has proved to us that the guys on the other side are too good .... [ 17. December 2002, 11:13: Message edited by: Xisuthros ]

I quite like my own thread:
Randomness as a sign of mindlessness
because
1) It makes people think about the foundations of probability and statistics
2) It makes people think about the foundations of ID
3) It's very short
4) It focuses on one particular question, and doesn't try to do several things at once. Good philosophy proceeds at a slow pace.
I don't know how to add a link to the thread. [ 19. December 2002, 15:34: Message edited by: Regvi ]

Going back to March, this thread by Mike Gene:
http://www.iscid.org/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=000017;p=4
" The Utility of IC "
Quote from the last post before the thread was closed:
Where does one go from here? Two questions stand out in my mind.
1.) IC is useful for understanding how things work and the patterns of distribution we see across evolutionary space. But how does IC help us when it comes to the origin of the system in question?
2.) Since IC is useful, we must ask why is it useful. Put simply, what does the utility of IC imply about biotic reality?
In the hopefully not-to-distant future, I will attempt to address these questions. [ 20. December 2002, 14:12: Message edited by: nobody ]

Just thought I'd say hello everyone, Nelson Alonso here, I'm back to posting on the ISCID and ARN board. I'm free to get addicted this time. I doubt anyone remembers me but I usually pop in and pop out sporadically,I shouldn't be taking any more long breaks though, since I finally got a permanent gig.
Oh yeah, my first post of the new year (sort of) is to nominate the thread "The Utility of IC" by Mike Gene.
Happy New Year,
Nelson Alonso [ 28. December 2002, 17:36: Message edited by: nanosoliton ]
