Adaptive System
An adaptive system is a physical system that is capable of self-adapting in response to changing environments. Adaptive systems should be contrasted with static systems. A static system will not have any self-repair abilities and will typically remain in a single non-adaptive state until its termination. Static systems are not equipped for self-modification and are only able to function within a small range of environmental change. Static systems are unable to adjust to novel environmental scenarios. An adaptive system, on the other hand, will be equipped to self-modify into different system-states in order to navigate, function and succeed within different environments. Adaptive systems are designed to engage and respond to their environments.
