Applications of Genome Research The current and possible applications of genome research are significant and varied, so much so that observers suggest that the work done in this field will result in the declaration of biology as the science of the century. Life sciences have already been considerably affected by the results of the Human Genome Project and other such research. For example, the information gathered as a result of the project is providing assistance to clinical medicine and biological research in the form of genome mappings that facilitate the search for the specific genes that cause genetic illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease and inherited colon or breast cancer.
