Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD is a developmental disorder of inattention and distractibility, and could be accompanied by hyperactivity. In the past, many other terms have been employed to describe this condition, including hyperactive syndrome and minimal brain dysfunction. Based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV), adults or children must have had manifested the symptoms before the age of seven years that have caused significant social or academic impairment. More recently, the attention has focused on adult forms of ADHD – which could have been underdiagnosed. eMedicine: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Clinical Workbook by Russell A.
