Daniel Dennett

Daniel C. Dennett is a leading researcher of consciousness, philosophy of mind and artificial intelligence at Tufts University where he is the Director of the Center for Cognitive Studies. Both his popular and scholarly work are strongly influenced by Darwinian principles - what Dennett calls a "universal acid". Dennett's latest book, Breaking the Spell, is a call for the scientific analysis of religion.

Dennett earned his B.A. from Harvard University in 1963, and completed a Doctorate in Philosophy at Oxford University in 1965 under the supervision of Gilbert Ryle.

Daniel Dennett is the author of several popular and academic books. These include Content and Consciousness (1969), Brainstorms (1978), Elbow Room (1984), The Intentional Stance (1987), Consciousness Explained (1991), Darwin's Dangerous Idea (1995), Kinds of Minds (1996) and Freedom Evolves (2003).

dennett, v. (I) To while away the hours defining surnames; hence dennettation n. (2) The meaning of a surname. "Every surname has both a meinong and a dennettation." n. (3) An artificial enzyme used to curdle the milk of human intentionality.
