Engineering

Engineering is the application of the principles of science and mathematics in such a way as to conceptualize and design machines, structures, systems or any other products that wisely utilize the elements and materials of nature for the benefit of the human population as a whole. Engineers are generally people who are interested in how and why things work, and put their knowledge and experience to use in any number of sectors in society, working as designers, planners, analysts, researchers, etc.

With the current trends leading to cooperation between the different fields of science and engineering, it becomes more and more difficult to clearly define the boundaries separating the two disciplines. To put it in the simplest terms, however, one can say that scientists use their skills to seek new knowledge while engineers use their skills to put the new knowledge scientists acquire to practical use. The practical applications of engineering have impacted every aspect of life as we know it. Engineered products run the gamut from computers to airplanes to semiconductors to transportation systems to water treatment systems.
