Genetic engineering
Genetic engineering is a process that artificially manipulates the genes of an organism in ways that supercede the manner in which nature could work if unaided. To be effective, this form of engineering requires the use of highly sophisticated technologies that can alter genetic makeup and can even take newly created samples and transplant them into completely distinct organisms. Since genes are the primary source of traits and characteristics, transplanting them equates to introducing a new combination of traits to the host.
