Neuroplasticity

Previously thought to be a characteristic only of the brains of the very young, neuroplasticity refers to the capacity of the brain to develop new neuronal/synaptic interconnections and thereby develop and adapt new functions and roles. It is now thought that this capacity for rewiring of the neuronal synapses to allow for re-development of entire regions of the brain is present in adults as well as children. Newly discovered principles of adult neuroplasticity are at the heart of some of the most revolutionary and groundbreaking work by Jeffrey Schwartz in the therapy of adult sufferers of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
