Optimal Design

Optimal design is perfect design that cannot be improved upon. Intelligent design is not committed to optimal design. Non-optimal design does not imply non-intelligent design. All human design is both intelligent and sub-optimal design.

Often optimal design and intelligent design are confused. This is a mistake. Typically this mistake derives from philosophical or theological presuppositions about the nature of the designing intelligence responsible for biological complexity. Such presuppositions have no place in the scientific theory of intelligent design.
