Organogenesis

The process of formation of organs and other physical features in a plant or animal. In complex life forms (animals specifically) the process begins when the embryo develops segments corresponding to the organization of the organs and body parts of the adult organism. Close observation and analysis of this process in lower animals has been a common practice in biochemistry and molecular biology, with a favorite subject being Drosophila melanogaster or the fruit fly.
